Dyson is one of the largest landowners in the uk. 25,000 acres he owns , compared to the Queens 20,000. Pity he cannot actually make his vacuums in the uk, rather than the far east.

If it were me i'd have 25 acres and employ a few lads making the things in the country i'd sell them in. But then the first rule of modern business seems to be feather your own nest and f**k everyone else.

yeah but there has to be a point when like dyson you have more money and toys than you could ever use. We have a billionare here in ireland who owns a string of petrol stations, he treats his staff appalingly and pays f -all. I just don't understand that mentality. He feels he is worth thousands of millions, but his staff are only worth less than a tenner an hour.

Dyson also got huge incentives from the local council to build his plant, they put roads in for him as well, then he said thank you very much and muggered off to Thailand. What gets me is that he didn't even need to. At the time, he really didn't have any competition and he was making a fortune. He could just make a slightly bigger fortune by moving. Bar steward.

Thing is most folk in the UK don't care where or how stuff is made and are more interested in paying as little as possible, hence the amount of crap getting shipped from China

Dyson mentions in his auto biography that he initially tried to sell the cyclone to other companies but nobody was interested, other countries didn't particularly like it as it wasn't a home grown thing and in the UK he got the opposite - he was told people wouldn't like it because it was British

Only problem with them is they never seem to get emptied so they don't half stink when used, years of rotting dust in the bag at least that's what happens in our office!

Completely agree. Hopefully the general public will start to realise that you get what you pay for. Most members on this forum already know especially with tools.
We are a wise bunch of people.

So "digital motor" is just a pretentious term used to make it sound like Dyson invented brushless motors, when really he just used a technology that was first invented in 1962. Just like how he "invented" cyclones.

I have a Henry as well as the two Vax's (I bought one second-hand, got one given from a guy at work that used it for cleaning out his aviary so I had to disinfect it first, it still smells funny a dozen years on) and a Henry that was dumped outside our old office (presumably by a member of staff who didn't fancy cleaning it) - not sure what Henry had sucked up but babies' nappies smell nicer. Another session with Dettol and bleach plus new filters and it works fine
So one Vax for the house, other Vax in the garage and Henry is down at Nursy's place as a workshop/ car/van vac
