different types of lectric shears, performance & longevity?

I have an air powered shear, the three bladed thing that cuts neatly and cuts an ~1/8 strip when it cuts; cut great until it wore and cutting bits were more than the tool cost.

I have to cut some sheet and rather than cover my bike with grit from cutting discs I thought I would buy an electric shears, secondhand of course.
I wondered if the shear that push a square bit up and down, cut any good and do you just need to replace the squares?

Yep top and bottom "squares" are the cutters. You may find they can be rotated for a new cutting edge much like a lath turning tool tip. Also you can cut tighter curves compaired to the sheares. IT would have paied to shop around for the new blades for the shears as they do vary in price quite a lot!.

I have the Katsu version of the second one, from Aim tools.
Been working well for 4 years. I do have some spare blades for it. Never occurred to me that rotation might be an option, will have to investigate.

I use them loads on mostly 1.6mm mild steel. They dont lkike cutting across sheets but keep close to the edge and they are fine, you can keep within 1mm of a scribed line.
What I do on long cuts is plasma cut things about 13m over size then go back; scribe and cut to exact dimensions.
The blades are square. about the size of a little finger nail so have four cutting edges. Pricey at around fisty quid a pair but last for ages.
The offcuts are evil; short ones curve up like horseshoes and land pointy end up. If I drop one I down tools until I find it. The cut edges are clean but nice and sharp.
if you buy a set of these ort similar never let anybody else use them, clumsy half wit hands tend to twist them and can chip the blades. If you take time they will down to a diameter of about 80mm
Current job has had them working overtime.
For this puppy I bought the steel in cropped into 150mm strips and cut all the body panels with the shears

A long slow painful job but not too much blood spilled
Wing below shows how I roughed it out with plasma. then cold bent the leading edge and trimmed the wing to fit
He's a big boy about 8ft long

Eventually Dragon will be sat on top of the globe I finished a few weeks ago

+1 for the Bosch style shears - I got an earlier Bosch scintilla version - same cutters that zip through sheet - capacity on these is stated 2.5mm (! I only use on thinner stuff though and very quick, no mess, much quieter than air versions too)
