The main difference is a metal cutting bandsaw is constructed more robustly, has a generally tighter blade tension, runs slower, and uses a different type, or types of blade.

All depends my wood cutting bandsaws the blade is under much higher tension, and when they go they go with one hell of a bang.
But i have always tensioned metal cutting blades much lower as running at a slower speed. On the odd occasion when cutting box something may pinch and the drive wheel will just slip on blade, on a woodcuting saw it would be game over either the blade would jump off and possibly snap or damage the coating on the wheels.

Speed and construction of the blade.
As all ready said.

One place I look after for the intruder alarm has 2 Socomec band saws, one for metal one for wood.
The metal one as a lubricating system fitted and a slower speed controlled motor.

There are plenty of choices only limited by your budget.
In the past I fitted a metal blade to a B&Q cheepy to cut alloy plates up.

I once had to use the metal saw for cutting some Oak beams as it was so dam tough.
