I notice some of DeWalt's product codes are listed as P1 while others are P2 or D1/D2. Does anyone know what differences this means for the products?

I've noticed it on the DCD796 and DCD797 products.

    1 or 2 is how many batteries come with it, p and d are battery capacities 5ah and 2ah respectively. There's also m (4ah) L (3ah) and s (1.5ah).
