Great vid mate... which has convinced me even more a pressure washer will clear them squares out and bring one back to life.

they tend to be a type of ceramicwhat is the honey comb stuff inside them made of?
I think mine is going to get removed and jet washed next year as a precaution.
ive heard of people blocking one end then using dishwasher tablets and hot water.
Drive more, longer faster hotter.
You then wont have issues.
Its the short trips that kill them.
Unless you can provide evidence it was cut to clean it....Gotta be good at hiding it now too. IIRC any evidence of the DPF being cut and welded will result in a fail.
What annoys me is the different way each car operates. My saab shows you whwn its doibg a regen as its like a james bond car for a couple of minutes with black smoke out the exhaust. The dpf is basically a filter that catches the soot produced by the engine, when the filter starts to get full the ecu will watch for a set of conditions to be met to start a regeneration process. These conditions are coolant, oil, exaust temps etc. All the conditions have to be met to start a regeneration, these include vehicle speed and throttle position (having cruise control on increases chances of a regeneration) and these are the 2 that cause the most problems with cars used for short stop/start joirneys.
DPFs are actually incredibly reliable units, a huge number of failures are actually miss-diagnosis, there's a lot of mechanics out there who don't understand how they work. A common one I see is DPFs diagnosed as gone when it's actually a pressure sensor thats gone and people go remove the DPF because they've been quoted over 2k to fix when actually a 60 quid sensor was all it needed.
The fact you're only doing 5 to 7k a year isn't something I'd be concerned about, it's more the type of driving conditions it will be used in for that 5 to 7k that's what will dictate how well a DPF car will serve your needs.

The Navara on the other hand shows nothing no lights or smoke....in fact you just dont know if its ever done a regen......
Not the most reliable manufacturer on the road I must say! You're lucky, Vauhalls just break down. Crap cars.
Excellent video as usual John.
After having 12 Insignia I beg to differ. I prefer them to the A4 or Passat. Never had one break down or even go wrong. You're lucky, Vauhalls just break down. Crap cars.
but you have had 12. if you had 1 for 12 years that never broke down...After having 12 Insignia I beg to differ. I prefer them to the A4 or Passat. Never had one break down or even go wrong.
How can that be crap?
Perhaps older ones were but new ones are fine.
