h'mm they are very nice, but one of them switches is 1.5 times the cost of the whole pump nice switch though

It was just an example, first one google found, I'm sure there are cheaper versions out there! I can't remember the make we used at work.

i wouldnt bother trying to use an oil pressure switch there not designed for water and will just rust / seize up

good point, l never really thought about that, perhaps l should just use a deck chair and hamper

What about a seesaw type setup. One end a float, the water drops too far and it stops the engine by tripping a kill switch?

the level of the fish pond l want to pump out from isent a worry to me,
here is a pic of about a quarter of it, loads of water and l am planning on extending it this spring

the fuel tank on the water pump is 80 lts and l dont have to fill it to the top, so the fail safe is that it will run out of diesel and stop, rough calculation based on my transit doing around 400 miles on a tank full of diesel which takes around 5 1/2 hours so roughly speaking the pump will run between 5 and 6 hours if l fill the tank to the top, although l would like it to stop before it runs out so as l dont have to bleed it to run again

the desire to fit a pressure switch is to stop the engine/pump if it stops sucking water as running dry may be harmfull to the pump

plenty of cheap pressure switches of central heating systems or pressure washers on fleabay, or l might be able to use a micro switch under the discharge hose as it goes like a steel rod and lifts its self up when under pressure, l know l have had my fingers in the old one's hose a few times, ouch

just rig up a tempory fuel tank with a litre of fuel and run it to find out how long you get with a litre, use a clear bottle so you can stop it before it needs to be bled again

along the same lines l was going to run it for an hour then stop it and see how much fuel is needed to refill the tank and then l would have a consumption rate in litres per hour

What you need is a relay that controls the electrics in the way that a keyswitch does. The coil circuit has a simple float switch (look for water tilt switches; cheap) in the diesel tank and the oil pressure switch in series. If either opens,the relay is de-energised and the fuel solenoid is cut off. The alternator light can be included in this too. Your start button bypasses them as long as your finger is on it.
Nothing wrong in using oil pressure switches to monitor flow, if the rust bit worries, then put a coil of copper pipe before the switch. The water will never get to it. This could be put through the relay as well, maybe with a switch so you wait until the flow is established before including it with the other cut outs.

Made a lot of stuff like this for an ornamental lake. Three levels with waterfalls. Two X 5hp electric pumps. Sounds a lot, but needed for the waterfalls to look good.

getting close now, should be ready for a test run but l have just been and fetched my hiab instead of firing her up

any idea why l have 2 solinoids on the diesel injection pump ?

do l just wire them in parallel so they are connected together ?

yes l was planning on sheeting the sides and the top in ally, l have a load of old signs l can peel the lettering off and repaint, was thinking of 1" mesh on each end to stop kids/animals wandering in,
l have a ball valve on top of the inlet l just need to rig up some sort of funnel above it so l can flood the pump and then close the ball valve and start her up,
will have it done soon, and then l want to bring my truck home put her in the garage and fit the hiab, then l could use the truck/hiab to place the pump by the pond

Don't have a manual near me, but the second solenoid might be the cold start. Wired to heat sensor in the head.
