Diesel / petrol stick welder

Looking for a smallish mobile welder say up to 200a. Who sells them & what make should I go for or avoid.

mosa seem to be the main choice, I am informed by those that fix them not to buy one to run a good few 4mm rods though it does them in 3.2 all day though. cant remember what goes but it sounded an expensive fix

The guy who services my equipment also says Mosa's are bad news. I am also after another genny/welder and thought I would look out for a Mosa 400 as a friend has one with an LN25 weeder and loves it, although I have been warned off them!

Jim, how do you rate Arc-gen units? I ask as my guy has a few of them for sale and obviously he's going to tell me their a good bit of kit so he can sell them. Saying that he sold me my Ranger and it is faultless

Presumably though, as with anything you buy, you shouldn't be expecting it to perform at the top end of its range for long?
I.e for 3.2mm rods buy something that'll do 180a, for 4mm something that'll do 250 so they won't be working too hard?

Arcgen are great, real rolls Royce stuff but don't buy one that's too old, everything gets knackered in the end.
I speak from experience, I had a mixture of 32 Arcgens and Luncolns at one point.

Been to look at a couple second hand machines locally, neither of them would burn a rod.

If it was a 200 short hood it would be in my garage by now... Just a bit on the big side.

There's a road tow 280a Honda diesel in Scotland on eBay at the mo... Might be worth a look.

It would be to earn with but not something I can see getting lots of use.
