Diesel/paraffin space heaters

This'll run ok on Kerosene (as in heating oil) won't it?

My lad needs one for short term use at his work and I'm thinking I'll take it off his hands when he's done with it to heat my workshop (circa 800 sq.ft.).

It will burn cleaner on heating oil but not as hot.

XR60b, Sold at least 5 a week since the weather turned cooler. Be aware they give out a 'wet' heat. Same as a gas one. But they are cracking little heaters. ( we have had no returns either)

Those are known as torpedo heaters over here.
If you run it on #2 diesel, it will cause problems (start tasting something in the air)
If you run them on Kerosene, much cleaner.

If want to use one in an enclosed workshop, get an indirect heater & exhaust the gas outside

I don't like these things for the condensation they cause. They are OK if you are in a semi open workshop or barn, and there is nothing precision or tools that might go rusty. I don't like the smell or the eyes smarting.

Better off with a padded boiler suit, or an infra red heater.

I used to heat the shed with my Zibro heaters. They do a good job at getting it cosy inside, but since I use a Chinese diesel heater the humidity inside has dropped by 10-15%.

id strip and hybrid build like the diesel heater or even an oil heater as they are the same thing with blowers

you can even go downdraft with those heaters

If by 800 sq ft you’re talking about something like 28’x28’ there’s no way I’d want to use something like that in there. They need plenty of fresh air for combustion and ventilation of the combustion products as well as to carry away all the water vapour they produce. Have a look through the manual. It would be like running your gas boiler in your house without the flue connected.

Very close, 36 x 24. And yes, I'm leaning towards that conclusion too. The problem I have (that he doesn't) is that the space I need to heat is well insulated and relatively draught-free. These chinese diesel heaters, on the face of it, should be a better solution to my heating issue, but I think I would realistically need an output of upwards 10kw. That would probably mean 2 or even 3 of them and I would struggle with locating them due to the layout of what I have inside and outside of my workshop.

the burner is the same to a degree whilst the indirect aluminium heat heat sink is used to change indirect heat to air heater the same can be said for water heater there roughly the same thing

or use the 14kw burner via an indirect air heater the same as an industrial oil heater that is exhausted via the flue

Can you not find a used oil residential fired hot air furnace ?
Very common over here, get re-purposed for garages all the time,
some add used engine oil to the fuel (not too much, unless the burner is changed)

Potentially, I might just need to think very hard about where to position them.

What I'd like is to find someone locally that has one that I can see, feel the output and listen to (I also have neighbours to consider).

Indirect heating is where it is at - for several reasons (smell - water vapour).

The trick is:

1. To scavange all the heat from the burner exhaust path...
2. Recirculate the workshop air thru the heater - so it is adding heat to warm dry air (not heating cold damp air)

The issue with the small 10kw Webasto chinese heaters is the warm up time of the room and if the doors get opened the heat is all gone.
That's quite a decent size garage, an indirect space heater would heat that size area up in 5 mins, it works on a thermostat, so only comes on at the selected temp, so dwouldn't use significantly more fuel than Webasto type heaters, that run conatantly
You can also mix filtered old engine oil with the kerosene in these machines, no issues
