Ok a diesel mechanic I am not.

A little advice please I have a LDV Pilot fitted with a XUD9 n/a head gasket failed so stripped down finding a warpped head had it skimmed and refitted using a saver shim as 19thou was taken off. Now it won't start, I've cleaned the glow plugs and bleed the fuel system checking I had fuel out the glow plug holes, it has good vacuum at manifold and pressure at exhaust exit, flywheel, cam and pump were all pinned during strip and rebuild so in theory timing should be correct.

I'm out if ideas any suggestions are welcome.

try a bit of easy start in the manifold to see if it trys to fire or not

I just deleted my previous post, but I've thought again...

I know that the stop solenoid can be an issue, so just try cracking the lines and turning it over, just to be sure.

(I know you mention it, but worth double checking I think)

Are the glow plugs getting hot?

Check the wiring to oil pressure switch.
Some LDV had the oil pressure switch wired in such away that if oil pressure is not reached it drops power to the fuel pump solenoid.
Is the Fuel pump timing correct?

My friend had a na xud. He gave up with trying to cut open the security stuff. Solenoid would unstick with a tow start, and then lock again on standing.

Ok i have checked the feed at the injector unions and had the glow plugs out and it throws fuel out, the oil pressure light goes out on cranking. As far as timing i assume so it was pinned so shouldn't have changed and I only disconnected the fuel at the injector union so pipes not mixed up.

I tried easy start and it tried to catch but wouldn't go. Finger on the glow plugs and i think i can feel some warmth but before it let go it started well only been apart just over a week.

And ive checked power to the stop solenoid and glow plugs.

Sounds normal to quick spin over but I've never spun it for long before. Have just been and taken the glow plugs out and tested them on jump leads and found to heat up two do nothing.

this is the plugs is this enough to cause non start?

Hi, recheck the timing, the sprocket onto the camshaft is not keyed, it relies on the nut/bolt being done up Tight!! I've had them slip whilst being cranked, they catch, falter and then just churn away.

Yes, it is.
I had a 205 what lost one plug, no 1. That was enough to prevent a start.

Hi, that looks like only two of them have been heating up and that is enough to cause a non-start. Using jump leads clip one onto the threaded area of the body and touch the other clip onto the little thread at the end, the tip should glow about halfway down after a few seconds if not discard and replace.

Where the valve seats cut back? If so have the valves been tipped and/or adjusted to reset lash?

Cam sprocket is keyed and no valves were removed.

Just been and got some new ones fingers are now crossed.

Ok new glow plugs haven't sorted it. What am I missing?

Got heat, fuel and compression
Have to assume correct timing as all parts were locked the cam was removed for skimming but it went back on timing pin and belt sliped on like it should.

Don't assume the timing is right, even through it was pinned.
The head timing marks will line up on either 1 or 4. As will the cam, so it is advisable to double check.
Carry out the rule of 9 to check.
Is the battery fully charged?
Does the oil pressure light go out?
Are they hydraulic tappets? If they are you will find a small hole in the head near the base. Pump a lot of oil, from a can to prime them.
Double check your fuel lines as a small leak will give a non start.
Did you change the fuel filter, it is not unknown a new one to have a air leak. I know to my experience.
