I have both air and electric die grinders and they both have their place, the air one has masses of torque and has a dead mans switch so it's safe.
I also have an electric 500w dewalt one i got form ebay for about 30 quid, it's great... until it grabs, then you want to throw it far far away as it will make a little bit of wee spill from you
So what i did to control the monster was to make a variable speed control from a 500w dimmer and a 1 gang socket, the 1 gang socket and 500w dimmer are plugged into the mains and the die grinder then plugs into the socket fed with a variable voltage from the dimmer, it also has the luxury of the dimmer being a push on/off for the easy dead man switch
