did my 1st weld today bit ruff

hi again did my 1st weld today 1st of many i think
i bought myself a clarke 90EN Gas/no gas MIG Welder im using it gasless
i'm having trouble with blowing holes all the time tho i have the settings on 1/min
wirespeed on 5, i cut out a section of sill on my transit & butt welded it
it turned out a bit ruff but solid enough should look ok after a bit body filler lol
now i have a fair bit of chassis to weld will this be a bit easier to weld than the sill?

Ahh yes, gasless wire does burn "a fair bit hotter" than solid wire with gas - so if you can afford to setup for gas and get a nice thin solid wire such as 0.6mm (which enables even lower "heat") you will find that it really helps a great deal with not burning through thin sheet.

(Actually for the thinner type sheel metal in cars....once you try welding with gas, you will never want to go back - trust me!)

That said, burn-through in thinner stuff seems to me be a bit more of a challege with DIY MIG welders (high-end $$$ units tend to have nice smooth, low-current outputs or even special pulsed modes that help greatly with thin sheet)

For thicker stuff (say 2mm and over) gasless will be a lot easier to not burn through (although it does make a lot of smoke that makes it harder to see clearly what is happening down at the weld)
