I should be writing procedures, but instead I'm procrastinating...
Bought a set of these in the spring time, around April this year, on a TG VAT free day.
Since then, they've been used for all sort of work, most evenings and weekends with the odd machine wash in there, so it's not entirely surprising that I wore a hole through one of the knees... I actually got around to sewing it up last night with needle and thread, and ordered another brand-new set from Zoro for good measure. Thought this might be of interest to some - after all, it's a good looking, well fitted, professional overall that ticks a load of boxes.
Pros:
- Warm - decent heavy cotton, 350gsm
- Machine washable - rated to 60deg wash and low temp tumble dry, whilst retaining the FR properties
- FR gives that (false) sense of security when welding and grinding... I mean, I've never burnt myself yet whilst wearing them, but I don't do an awful lot of MIG in them anyway. Still, the heavy cotton is an awful lot better than thin work pants or jeans for resisting hot blobs of metal, so I'd rate them well for this, and never felt the need to put on the leather jacket unless welding underneath something.
- Reflective strips look bitchin'. Some work sites require these - the site where i work every day doesn't, but it really should, it's a great idea.
- Zippered upper pockets and zippered front, works well, feels strong and good quality
- Fits really well... probably the best fitting overall I've ever had... Then again, I tried on a few sizes when I first purchased.
Cons:
- Warm! Much too warm for summer time - feel sorry for the poor guys on O&G sites that have to wear these day in, day out! At least it's optional for me on my own, and I have lighter overalls for the red-hot days!
- As said at the start - the right knee wore out fairly early on - was doing quite a bit of spray painting steelwork on one knee, and really should have had proper kneepads on. Still disappointing, though.
- Speaking of which, I wish they had kneepad pockets.
- the reflective tape is continually fraying, leaving little bits of white thread here and there. It's annoying to have to keep picking or cutting them off.
- None of the pockets are quite the right shape to hold a decent size tape measure on the belt clip properly. Not many overalls tick this box, though.
Verdict:
Would I buy again? Well I just have
