Dgreasing old tools.

Gunk then when the mrs is out bung them in the dishwasher....I use red diesel for cleaning stuff up, and a selection of brushes. Then blow them off with air..kerosene / heating oil the all work, basically I use diesel over heating oil as its easier for me to get the diesel out of the tank, and its closer to my shed.

I've always used Kerro .. I just leave it in a tub to settle out, then re use it. The sludge lights waste fires.

I find an aquarium pump bubbling away under the 'stuff' keeps the degreaser moving and improves the performance.

The mock up today was tried. On my new to me saw.
Tray of meth's in a tall box, handle hung from top of the box.

As @Parm left in warm corridor, not warm boiler room. Yes lots of ventilation.

That's how it came out, yes it has dried out, but all the dirt and grime has gone.

So, Mk2 was built, and oil incrusted file handles were tried. Again Meth's was used.




The grime seamed to be oil and dirt. I watched it, you could see the vapour rise and condense onto the handles, form drips and run off, taking the dirt with it.



Dried off and I whizzed the metal ferrules up with a Dermal.

As a prove of concept, yes it worked. As pointed out H&S needs to be taken into account.
The cabinet is a sealed unit, but I need to be 100% sure no one will tamper with it.

The files them self's, 1 is bathing in citric acid, the other in vinegar. @Dieselkid 63 Both are Wiltshire files.

Today, we had 2 members de rusting and dismantling. I worked on mocking up a vapour cabinets.

The idea works, but it does need improving.

@outofthefire That is a good idea, I know were I can "liberate" a small dish washer for the metal parts.

For bulk removal of grease, dirt and loose contamination (even paint) have you considered a steam cleaner?

I'm looking at making something up. Jet wash with a water heating attachment for example. Once you've got the bulk of the dirt off, it makes the deep clean a lot easier and pleasant a job.

the cheapest but working dishwasher you can find. i have one and it is really useful for cleaning some daft bits as well as tea cups.
