Devillbis Gti Pro Clear gun settings

I wonder if anyone can help. I recently bought a devilbiss gti pro clear gun and am having real problems with runs. My previous guns have been anest iwatta w300s which, although runs occurred occasionally, not as much as with this gun. Clearly I have a problem with my technique but can anyone recommend an optimum setting for this gun, just to get me going?

Every gun I've used has had it's own quirks and sweet spot so it's really down to you to find your best setting. Anyone can get a run by just moving the gun too slow or too close to the surface. You are spending the money on the equipment so you should be prepared to spend some time on technique or it will just be wasted. There are no numbers or clicks on the gun, watch a few youtube videos and work it out from them. What paint are you spraying, and what conditions are you working in ? Anything could be a contributing factor.

Many thanks for getting back to me. I spent quite a long time (years!!) trying to find the optimum settings on the iwatta. That gun has graduations so once we found an optimum setting we always revert to those settings. Just wondered if anyone had the same sort of thing i.e fluid control 1.5 turns at 45 psi and fan at max - that sort of thing. I've watched the you tube videos and everyone has different techniques!!
I'm just using the gun for 2k lacquer, 2:1 ratio with 10% thinners, so any advice would be great!!

There are some base starting settings in the manual, I have an sri pro and only used it with 1k clear so far but found that easy to use and atomisation was very fine so gave a good finish. I just wound fluid control to get amount of paint to suit my speed of travel. I found if I applied it smooth it caused runs but when it applied slightly orange peel it settled smooth while drying. I still need more practice though its not easy to keep consistent speed and distance which appears to be the only way to maintain a good finish.

Thanks for that. Interesting about the orange peel finish settling. With the iwatta's I could get a finish out the gun with minimal nibbing back, but that needed slow and deliberate clear coat application. It seems with the gti pro you almost have to go like the clappers as it throws out so much more material. It's certainly not an economical gun. I come from a smart repair background so for years was outside in a van doing repairs at car dealerships so material useage i.e overspray blowing everywhere, had to be kept to a minimum!! I didn't get a manual with the gun in the box, presume it's one of those on line things!!

Manual is on the cd in the box, or can be found online as a pdf. Depends on what fluid and aircap you have fitted too. Hvlp or transtec cap, with our pro I set the fan to the job and the air pressure around 10 to 15 psi with water basecoat. But thats doing small parts...
