Detecting source of draughts/cold spots

I have a couple of areas in my house where I get a sporadic cold "draught"[1], without any apparent source.
Is there a way of finding the cold spots without resorting to a thermal imaging camera?

Or failing that - does anyone in the Leeds area have a thermal imaging camera I can borrow for a couple of hours?
I really can't afford to even hire one - let alone the £100-150 for a usable cheapy.

[1] more a cold feeling in the air from a particular direction.

Vape vapour shows draughts well.

Use talcum powder or as said above a candle

It's not really a "draught" per se.
It's just a feeling of "cold" from a particular direction.

Not enough to disturb a candle flame.

I'll give a "vape" a try.

A cold wall, or ceiling, could be the cause. A handheld infrared thermometer can be useful, and more affordable than a thermal imager.

yep i have one.checked the walls doors and windows and all had cold spots even zapped the dog and he was hot

I've refurbished my bathroom. Walls, floor and ceiling are insulated with Celotex. The window is the original double glazed unit. It's sealed airtight around the window frame to the walls. Even so if you stand by the window it's colder but there's no draught. Cold bridging I think it's called.

As in the window is simply not as well insulated as the surrounding wall.

Doesn't help it's North facing.

Have a nice hot shower, step out and don't dry yourself fully, have a wander around, you will soon find the draughts.

Have you asked anyone at the local council about thermal cameras? I'm sure someone told me that one of our local towns was making them available for brief periods at little or no cost, though there may be a deposit or some other means in force to get you to take it back!

I've used a camera here; showed up how poor the roof insulation was right at the eaves. We have a very shallow angled roof and getting in to that space on your belly is hard. I used a garden rake to push extra insulation in to place.

I have digital thermometers all over the house; it is really peculiar how sometimes they all say the house is at my set temperature, but there are just times when I still feel cold despite what the thermometers say. This is where we get in to that discussion about letting the house get cold overnight with the heating completly off; the walls get cold, and although the air temperature may be OK when you put the heating back on in the morning, there's still a chill to the place. I once heard an architect talk about it; wish I listened more closely.
