There are a lot of fake SSDs on Amazon - I'd only ever buy from an official manufacturer on there, such as Crucial, Samsung or WD.

Nothing at all wrong with Crucial - they're the retail arm of Micron Technology who are one of the top three memory manufacturers by volume (the other two being Samsung and SK Hynix).

Of course, it's possible to get a dud Crucial SSD like it is possible to get a dud from any manufacturer, as it is possible to get fake SSDs with these names on.

But Crucial is an excellent, reputable brand.

Well I fell for it again. Lol. I can always return it though.

I could not see the reviews on amazon but I saw some on a different site.

Take reviews with a pinch of salt. For every bad review, there are probably a hundred or more folk having no issues. The good rarely gets mentioned, whereas people tend to bitch instantly.

That is so VERY true! We have shipped over 500,000 pallets since we started. Our Google reviews are terrible. We have about 200 bad ones since 2009 but they over ride the good. Our Trustpilot scores are brilliant. Why? Because we were paying them £400 a month to "manage" them. It is basically legalised blackmail. We didn't ask Trustpilot or Google to host reviews for us!

Going back to SSD there seems to be a myriad of SSD on amazon lately. I usually buy crucial or Samsung but their prices have stayed high. 50% more than other brands. Allegedly my Crucual has been duff ever sionce I installed it about a year ago. so not sure of the sense of buying branded if all they do is over charge.

More expensive for a reason, reliability and you pay for peace of mind.

But with that in mind you will always have failures.

Mission critical, paying for a well known, reliable brand SSD is sound logic.

Nothing important but requires backing up/storage, I've had no issue or at least the grandkids haven't with the Kioxia brand SSDs bought them for that purpose.

Important storage/keeps, I favour and use the SanDisk brand.

Mission Critical, imo, you can't go to far wrong with Crucial, Samsung or WD.

Pet hate for me I reserve for the Kingston SSDs brand.

I agree, nothing wrong with Crucial at all, reliable and reputable.

Yeah I knew a company doing just that on eBay... I do take reviews with a pinch of salt for the reasons above.

The reason I asked it's a crucial that has allegedly got problems. Of course as its kept working it might be the reporting software at fault.. lol
