Design your own under stair storage?

I recently used a fairly useful Ikea website function to design my own wardrobe carcasses for our walk in wardrobe (large cupboard in our bedroom!). It worked really well and apart from having to cut 3 inches off of the width of one carcass and its shelves its a very good and snug fit with shelves, hanging and drawers all made to fit.

Does anyone know of anywhere that has a similar function for understairs storage? I dont want 'free' visits by people to measure up, calls etc to confirm measurements I can take myself as they all add to the costs, just something similar to the above from Ikea so I can buy carcasses with pull out drawers and the runners etc. Then I can add my own facing to match the decor in the house.

If this doesnt exist, I will build it myself but it will just take me longer and I was keen to save time. If I do build it myself, can anyone recommend some heavy duty drawer runners? I essentially want pretty much this -

made to the full width of the stairs (3 feet) to take full advantage of the space available.

I have always used Blum runners and hardware, not the cheapest but probably the best. they do nice long undermount runners that are full extension and can take 70+kg

Have a look at Sketchup. It was designed for architectural drawing/planning. You can also find free models on the web, for example, virtually everything Ikea have ever made is freely downloadable as a 3d model.

I need to have a proper measure up and see what is reasonable depth wise to fit in there. The Blum runners go to 750mm lenght, which could waste around 150mm of useable space but I suspect once I have built a frame and figured out just where I want the front panel to fit, this might be about right. The Klug ones on there have an 800mm and 900mm option but they werent what you guys reccomended!

(I dont mind paying for quality gear as its another job I only want to do once!)

What a palaver. But well worth a few days of my time.

Then I ripped the stairs apart

Thats just the sort of thing i am thinking. Except i was thinking three long drawers like in the youtube link above. I think i need to crack on and start building. What thickness ply did you use? Was it stiff enough?

Mine goes down three stairs. It is shelved for food storage, aka the shop.

to be honest the first 1/4 of under the stairs can be used as quick grab tool boxes used when emergencys exist better than under the sink or in a cupboard

its quick grab and means that as ive found we all tend to store on stuff in cupboards even i do

Oh you poor chap living in such a tiny house, we have an under stairs loo as well as a cupboard next to it. It's a lovely set up.

Mind you our kitchen is miniscule....

There has been a request on the jobs list for under stairs storage...been on the list 10+ years!

I'm avoiding doing it because we have meters under the stairs as well as the main gas shutoff too!

Haha. Mines really an empty space so should be a relatively simple build! Should be!

a larder unit gives you plenty of space within reason and plenty of parts to use as you build

a shelved wardrobe unit is the same thing

the issue with both is depth of both units and steps are wider single wardrobe unit is about 500mm but your base needs to be longer to slide fully out

but the sides dont have to be slide unit the middle section can be the slider itself
