Delphi sedimenter parts?

Could you just remove the sedimentor?

I run the 200tdi on SVO so no transesterification in my case but no seal problems.

My original thought though was that defenders (pre td5) didnt (i think) have a sedimetor.

I run an electric lift pump from Facet that kinda does the same job as a sedimentor. I got tired of lift pumps failing which i suspect was in part due to the veg oil.

When I swap the defender chassis I'll likely put a disco sedimenter on the chassis. They have a different design (metal body) and I've never had issues with them.

This one is off the 101. Maybe I should swap that to a disco one too. Anyway, I think they're worth having, if only to attempt to remove the paint flakes that Jerry cans shed.

But, yes, I could remove it.

I'm trying to sort the 101 currently and it's easier right at the moment to just get what's there operational rather than mess about. I'll let "future Julian" deal with decaying seals in 6 months or so!

Looks like the one on my 1995 JCB 3CX. The inverted funnel shaped interior bit decided it didn't want to stay 'clipped up' (old plastic I suppose) so I ended up installing a weak but long spring on the inner pillar.

The plastic dome is friction fit over an o ring.

Loose (or ware) the o ring and it will just fall.

On mine it clipped (or rather didn't) between bosses that are there to accomodate the input & output connector tappings.

The D2 ones - the heads have a habit of going porous and letting in air. Its crazy how they corrode but its probably no surprise given they are mounted in the grottiest place. Worth covering in waxoyl/dinitrol/whatever your preference to slow the corrosion.

Filters need positive pressure (or at least work best with positive) whilst sedimenters are fine on the vacuum side.

So you have something that takes out some amount of junk before the lift pump.

I think pump diesel in this country is fine without one, but shifty fuel abroad, or shifty fuel from my shed and I think they're probably a good idea.

Whenever I've emptied one, it's had some amount of junk in it, so it's done something. Maybe the filter would have done just as well by itself though.

You can get a twin head for the bosh style spin on filters. I've known people to plumb two of them in parallel also (I forget how it works but I think two in parallel are said to last more than 2x as long)

Anyway, the disco one on my d1 certainly lasted as long as the rest of the car, and considerably longer than the seal on this one!

I've got a hybrid of a couple back in the 101 now and it seems to be holding. Setup on that is -

tank to sedimenter to faucet lift pump to filter to ip

I reckon the faucet lift pump could get killed pretty quick with bits of gravel etc so I'm happy to have something prior to it.

A sedimenter isn't a filter as such.
It's essentially a baffle that causes the fuel to flow around a tight corner which causes the resulting centrifugal force/gravity to 'throw' dirt out of the fuel flow so that it settles in the bottom of the housing as "sediment".

You also get conglomerators aka water traps, but they're essentially an empty bowl that allows the fuel to slow that much, that dirt/water simply drops out due to the gravity. It's essentially what the bowl on the bottom of most fuel filters does.

The CAV ones also are on CASE equipement, and very popular.
Every one I have seen (Including on my Ford tractor) are a double side-by-side affair.
First filter is bowl, second is changable paper filter in metal can.
