Defender?

I spent yesterday putting full electric seats into a rebuilt 90 , on a new chassis with a new bulkhead , 2 inch lift heavy duty shocks , and more bolt on parts than a Harley accessory catalog , the cost of this thing is going crazy ,, his wheels without tires cost more than my current daily driver .
I wish I could say it was even pleasant to drive , but its not. But in its defense it has absolutely no rust at all .. yet.

Now this is what I need to find, one done by someone else, whos wife said….its me or the defender

I think a big reason so many are still on the road,is due to them being ever repairable,not due to great build quality,I do however like the pre electronic ones and have had quite a few,and of course I’d never used an electric welder until I had a landy.

chassis no2 having being returned to Richards as they welded bracket on wrong way round, we've never done that before they said, scant consolation.

Not much they haven't, took them 2 go's to get the body tub brackets in the right place on one of my Series chassis and I gave up on getting them to correct their error for the fuel tank bracket.

Have you priced doors of late ,,, crazy money for tidy ones , more expensive than a bulkhead.

I see Shielder are making them now at £480 a door and SP 4x4 also have a number of options, got to be a good thing to have more options on the market and calm down the trade in s/h ones of suspect origin.

how are the outriggers ,,, fronts usually , or the bottoms of the curves just before the axle rise , or the round tubes that the seat box mounts too ,,, Ive another to do tomorrow , and more seats to fit on Saturday ... I will never be out of work ,,, ever.

Ill look at the weekend whos chassis my friend fits , he has very very little bother , and the same folk do all the usual silly stuff to , that fits as well as can be expected , Tonka style bumpers and the likes. To mbe fair they also do some first class bulkhead sections and outriggers and axle brackets too , really nice fit and tidy.

Do you like your vehicles to be noisy, have a uncomfortable driving position, have water leaks inside, be cold in winter, hot in summer, slowish, bit wallowy and rolly, questionable handling, leave oil all over your drive, etc? Do you like to work on your vehicles yourself to try to make them better, do the maintenance on them and spend a fortune?

Seriously, I recommend anyone thinking of buying one, drives as many as possible, for as long as possible before buying.
And yes, they are great fun.

This sounds A LOT like my LDV Convoy (except for the "spend z fortune" part) .
I've heard it said the Convoy shares a few bits with Land Rovers?

A good advert for whatever was used ,, I remember there used to be a service where you could get a new car rustproofed , they drilled holes all over the place and squirted stuff in and put gromets back in the holes ,, simonized or something like that springs to mind .

I remember a friend got his new mk4 cortina done , It was done from new and done in Germany , it was quite spendy at the time .

So to close this thread after patient advert perusal, looking at some youll not find better….liar liar pants on fire defenders. I now own one. Its silver, and I quite like it so far-even if it is dated industrial parts bin speacial.
