Friend is going to take his Td5 to a garage, but im curious anyway -
Charge warning light came on on a trip, and, sure enough, when he got back, the battery voltage was low.
He came over earlier after charging it up, and, whilst I couldn't find anywhere with enough space to get my clamp meter on, I did watch the battery voltage as he stated it.
12.6 before he turned the key.
Dropped a bit as the plugs or whatever came in with the ignition.
Down whilst it cranked.
Then rising to 14.somthing once it started (exactly as you would expect)
...but only for 40 seconds or so. Then charge warning light on, and battery voltage dropping down again to 12.4 ish.
Revving made no difference at all.
Being one of those new landrovers, I couldn't even see how the alternator comes out, although I'm sure YouTube would say. Anyway, it's not on my head as he is going to book it in with someone who does it for work, but I'm still curious.
I'm thinking brushes would either work or not, so is this more likley some sort of regulator issue?
Thank you
