I poly bushed my Golf way back with Powerflex, when I stripped the whole car down for refurbishment I reused all the bushes, still perfectly serviceable.
Didn't notice much increase in harshness either removing the elastomeric (sp?) bushes.

Looks pretty good, I swapped the roof for one without a sunroof and it's a much different green when you look closely and it does not bother me enough to repaint it.
