Brogio make the best ones. Need a man sized brush cutter to run one though.

I was just going to suggest those.
Borrowed the neighbours wheeled strimmer, and it uses those. The serrated edge destroys pretty much everything, they last surprisingly long, and replacement is quick and easy.

However I bought a EGO brushcutter with their Rotocut attachment, which is good for general strimming, and doesn't throw up any debris. It's not any use on brambles though, but I'd fit a brushcutter blade for those -

A good all round scrub basher are the four stroke wheeled strimmers, they have rubber skirts which catch most of the nasties that can get thrown at you. I drilled the disc on one of these and fitted short chains to it, that thing goes through anything. A lot easier than swinging a strimmer about and a lot more power.

a couple of years ago a guy at work turned up with strimmer line that had a steel wire running through it , it was great for doing round concrete kerbs , no idea where it came from , but it was genuine strimmer line not just steel wire rope

I bought some wire core from the home depo store and am getting ready to give it a go.

I use one down the yacht club occasionally, We get through yards of 3mm line, get it from Doe's farm suppliers. One of the officers suggested getting a chain flail attachment he had seen online. I had to point out HSE had recently banned them after a lad got killed up Barrow way, team clearing a roadside bank, one of the guys hit a rock & a link of the chain came off, hit his mate at base of his skull back of neck & killed him instantly.

Well if you're getting into the metal side of things, I always preferred a mulching blade over the tri blade - but mine is mostly used for brambles - something like this:

For line - agree mine sits ina tub of water constantly until I come to use it.

The other option is Stihl Polycut head - 3 poly blades works really well on long grass and the occasional bramble - safer than a metal blade around fencing etc, and more durable than strimmer line. Make sure you buy the right size for your machine.

Just bought one to try out, absolutely no need for one. I love this forum

I've tried the plastic blade heads and they work ok but certainly not a cheap way to do it. Tried a metal try blade and they are great if you are always doing heavy stuff. Anything that has specific special parts is nearly always going to be expensive to run with heavy use. 271M of the 3mm Stihl lasts us a long time. It is able to deal with brambles, sure you need to bumping the head more often but it costs pennies. Most people other than contractors when clearing brambles will then be keeping on top of them.

Piano wire

I put a piece of tig wire in a strimmer head once. Shan't try that again. It cut like crazy for about 20 seconds then snapped and skewered a fence panel.
