Decent SR44 battery

I bought a load of RS branded SR44 silver oxide batteries for my mitutoyo digital tools but unfortunately they're not lasting more than a month before the screens start going dull.

Any brands you'd recommend or should I buy genuine mitutoyo batteries?

I think they used to be branded Panasonic that came with the Mitutoyo tools

Even though you turn the display off the device still draws the same current! I always take the batteries out when not using them, they last much longer.

Doesn't Mitutoyo sell them on their website?
Cause it's the first thing I've thought when I've read the battery code, try to search on their website if they have them for sale

Branded SR44 cells ought to be up to spec, provided they're the real thing and not knock offs, and should last a decent amount of time.

Having said that, RS aren't a battery manufacturer, so who is making their cells, I wonder.

Over the years, I've found Varta, Maxell, Duracell, and Panasonic to be good, and GP batteries not quite so. Cheap, unbranded cells are a bit of a gamble. They're not all bad. Some have been OK.

Yes, there is some sort of swelling or bursting from the bottom around (green) coloured ring on the edge. I think they're a bad batch

If the leakage from the cell bridges the insulating seal on the cell, then it will definitely act as a current leak pathway between the cell's +ve and -ve terminals. .

There are fake batteries out there but I don't think RS will be selling them.

use my calipers just a couple of times per day unless machining

Both my mitutoyo digital caliper stay on permanently and the batteries will go a minimum 6 months perhaps more than a year. Even my cheapie one will auto-off the display and still go months with thw same battery.

Renata preferably for watches, the cheap multi pack from Morrisons lasted well for my verniers.

Both my mitutoyo digital caliper stay on permanently and the batteries will go a minimum 6 months perhaps more than a year. Even my cheapie one will auto-off the display and still go months with thw same battery.

I never turn mine off and unless the battery gets swapped when they get calibrated, it's done about 3 years.

Don't confuse SR44 (Silver oxide, 1.55v) with LR44 (Alkaline, 1.50v), they'll both fit but the LR won't last as long.

Just checked, mine has a Seizaiken brand SR44SW, apparently the SW means its better suited for low current draw.

I use Renata in the watches...the SRW44W (Renata 357) should suffice nominal capacity 160mAh...should be able to pick them up for less than £1ea. The SRW44SW (Renata 303) designed for low drain has nominal capacity of 175mAh and lower self discharge...expect to pay more.
Seizaiken (Seiko) are also good.

I've got some other Mitutoyo with an 'off' button. Battery lasts forever when they are in the box but if I am using them and forget to turn them off they'll drain it in no time.

Yes I have a regular Digimatic Absolute AOS and an older model for internal groves, those have the little on off button and if not turned off they'll drain the battery in less than a month
