A mate of mine had the Quad electrostatics for a few months but he didn't like the fact that, er, they don't go loud... or low
My DM4s don't do low either, which used to be a bit annoying, but since most of the time these days I have the Armstrong amp's loudness switch on as the volume's so low it works quite well.

Bob Surgeoner who I mentioned above founded NEAT acoustics; their first big seller were the Neat Petite bookshelf speakers (that sounded better on stands, of course) - http://neatacoustics.com/overview/

The Quads are the fussiest speakers I've ever seen to set up.
I've them in a decient sized room 8m x 5m and firing down the length of the room.
As long as they are at least 1m (1.5 is better) away from the walls (1.5 is better but then they block the door) they sound great and go plenty loud and low enough for me.
If there are close to the walls they don't just sound bad they sound broken.
The funny thing is in free space they can fill the whole house with sound and can fool me into thinking there is a real piano playing.
I don't listen to drum and bass but some Rock, (I'm more of an acoustic and classical kind of guy if I'm honest) and for that I've not had anything close.
I also use them for movies and again for the type of movie I watch (no blockbusters) I've never felt I'm missing something.
Of course this is down to my hearing (or lack of it) but if it fools me I'm happy.
Horses for courses but since I got them I've stopped messing with hi-fi.
