As above, I'm looking to replace a cheap 13mm chuck on my magdrill. It has a Weldon type adapter bolted to a standard 13mm chuck which is pretty rubish. Any ideas on a quality brand chuck which wont break the bank?
Albrecht, Rohm. New are foolish money, but I'm a patient man, I think the expression is; they come to me?
I found them in skips and on broken drills, dirty and rusty is when I like them most.
I have an Evolution mag drill. It came with an adaptor to the standard 1/2" x 20 UNF power tool chuck thread and a pretty lousy keyed chuck as supplied. I fitted a keyless Rohm Supra: pricy but very good. I've never seen a 1/2" x 20 Albrecht (which doesn't necessarily mean they don't exist).
A few years back, Screwfix and then Toolstation sold an all-metal no-name keyless chuck for about 25 quid that was a lot better than anything else I could find at the price for handheld drills. I think it was described as a Manganese chuck (maybe used a Hadfield steel for the jaws?). Neither seem to list it now, but there's a vague offchance it's the one in the Silverline range (633613). The Silverline name would normally have me passing on the other side, but it might be worth a look at one in the flesh?
What’s in the mag drill? Mines an mt2 which has a Weldon on it. I’ve a chuck that I use for twist drills that’s also mt2.
Jacobs are good or they were at least. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a new chuck. Just go for quality old ones which you can find for not much if you are patient.
