I've just spent most of the last 24 hrs glued to the goggle box watching the spectacular engineering and planning that's been put into extracting the Chilleian miners.

Well done those engineers .. We had a JOBO and chum here this mid morning spouting about his god doing it ... Yeah yeah.. , I told him and his pal that I could prove it would not have worked without decent engineers and precise planning , then closed the door in their mushes.

A truly uplifting story, when was the lst time there was a genuine good news story like this? god engineering, good planning and good leadership. It even seemed that the government cared about the people first.

Lets hope they all survive the aftermath, in this country the media would wither eat them alive or encourage them to eat each other.

Wifey and I were discussing the two films this morning.

Film 1 will be shown in arthouse/independent cinemas and will be very realistic.

Film 2 will be made by a major hollywood studio, Americans will have come up with the idea, drilled the hole with their bare hands and the whole world will be grateful to them for saving everyone's life. In fact as the yanks on site are from NASA it'll involve something secret too.

Bit like most films based on real life.

Did 10 years underground at a local coal mine less than 100 yards from home. Best job I've ever had!! The mine itself dated from the 15th century and the newest machines were from the 60s and most being from before the 2nd world war! The mine was unique that the drift entrance actually went under a castle! Nowhere as deep as the mine in Chile but boy was it hot. Dust was bad but the engineering place I work at the minute is just as bad. I spend all day grinding and welding but I would rather be down the pit working any day
