Debonding super glue ?

I don't mean the stuff in little tubes that you used to stick your sister to the toilet seat, but the two part stuff that has the aerosol activator, like Mitre Chum etc

I have bought a pre enjoyed UPVC window to replace the one in a garage that is so rotten I can push my fingers through it.

It has had bits of trim bonded to it around the edges of the frame which have been broken off, but leaving remnants of the trim along with a bead of said adhesive. I want to remove it if I can, but whatever I have tried does not even soften it. So far I have tried super glue debonder, which doesn't even touch it, white spirit, hot water and soap, white vinegar, bleach, silicone remover and kitchen cleaner.

Anyone have any other suggestions ? I could leave it as it will be in a garage, but it will irk me every time I see it !

Acetone maybe, failing that a Stanley blade scraper? Failing acetone on hand, nail varnish remover might be a decent substitute but some has conditioners that contaminate the surface & also need to be wiped off. I've not bought nail varnish remover for a while there's a possibility it has none of the good stuff (acetone) in it any longer!

Acetone but if the existing window frame is so rotten just split the wood so their is bit left on the trim. You can either sand it off then or use the solvent

Failing acetone on hand, nail varnish remover might be a decent substitute but some has conditioners that contaminate the surface & also need to be wiped off. I've not bought nail varnish remover for a while there's a possibility it has none of the good stuff (acetone) in it any longer!

I have some acetone on order, but it seems to be lost in the ether ATM.

The residue is on the UPVC frame, not the wooden one.

Have you tried covering the glue with a cloth & soaking it in hot water? I understand if you get your fingers stuck together, soaking in hot water will do it. Might be complete rubbish, but worth a try.

Can you add new trim to hide the residue from the old trim?

I’ve not had any luck removing superglue once it’s had time to go off properly.

I think you're right in so far as the acetone can dissolve the uPVC but in this case a rag (white!!) dipped in acetone wouldn't do any damage, especially if it's rinsed off once the adhesive's gone.
Dip a piece of uPVC in a pot of acetone.....v different result I suspect. Tempted to give it a try just to see what happens.

I have had this stuff on my hands before, and it eventually does come off after repeated washings, but is more likely easier because skin is slightly oily and flexible.

Which reminds me, ISTR that olive oil is effective. Can't try it ATM as I have to lay the frame flat, and SWMBO will be getting annoyed if I try this in the kitchen while she is cooking.

I've done similar - inside garage, sanded it back so I didn't keep catching stuff (ie me) on it - admittedly, suirface finish is damaged, but after a little while, it blends in well with the other dirt and dust

I know the lumps you mean, a sharp but not favourite wood chisel knocks them off quite well
