BSF user here. Got a list yet?I have a large selection of taps & dies acquired from here & there & a few that i bought! People tell me i should throw them all away "You will never use that get rid of it!" As if an empty workshop with nothing in it is something to be admired, Sorry but it isnt.
It gave me great pleasure recently for such a guy turn up & ask "I have this really obscure thread to clean out have you a tap?" It was really obscure large very fine thread, & in my box of odds & sods I had one. Job done in 5 minutes. I doubt he has learnt, too much corporate company brainwashing courtesy of Fords!

I have metric, ba, BSF, bsw, unf, UNC, ME, bscy, BSP and NPT.
That's what you get for years of playing with motorbikes!
I could be interested in some more ME.

Normally yes, but 40 tpi is also used in metrology.

I have been surprised over the years at how random threads pop up, a 1930's motor bike throttle was 2BA I just wrongly assumed all BA was on electrical stuff.

That is true, but model engineer's thread has only ever included 32 tpi and 40 tpi. The taps he has that are marked with ME are 48 tpi. So the number and the letters in this specific case do not conventionally sit adjacent.

The points cover screws and pillar bolts on 60s BSAs, Norton and Triumphs are 2BA.

On the Retro Manods, they used BA threads.
I have a set of those, rarely used but sometimes useful. Another oddball i came across was an obscure French metric fine thread also used on artillery by Vickers for some reason, it was used on some Morris sidevalve engines.

Tracy tools ( my go to) don't even list it. Sent for one from ying tong land.
I don't care about the quality as it is just to chase a thread I already made. Actually up a spigot. Bloody nightmare. Trying to run outwards at high speed, in reverse. I put the feed in reverse and positioned everything perfectly then hit reverse, which meant the feed ran out as normal so smashed one of my 6mm Iscar boring bars to bits. Not happy. Cut it going in using the footbrake. Schoolboy error.

Helped a late friend re-chassis his 1960 Morgan with a new Factory supplied chassis and toe board/bulkhead thingy in the late 90s.
The mix of threads on the new parts direct from Factory was a surprise.
Later visited Factory, surprise over !
My 2001 Caterham has a similar mix of threads - old chassis design, with modern, metric drivetrain.
Mind you, out technical manager decided our new machine 20 yrs ago would be UNC/UNF as it's main market was expected to be the US. Most of the machine is indeed those threads, but some proprietary items can only be had in metric - so some components have a mix of thread forms. Never mind the pipe thread issue . . .
That meant service engineers now had to find and carry basically twice the tools, our machine shop had to buy new toolings, both having chucked imperial stuff years before when we went metric.
As most of those machines have since been sold in metric-land, I'm not too sure it was a sound decision, especially as metric is now so much more common in the US and doesn't scare the plant guys.
