Cheers Ian, good call. I reserved one yesterday and Mr ratts 'I want one too for my bike bits' ordered his just now. Off to Norwich in the morning (nearest at Thetford had run out).
Less than £40 as I get the VAT back
All I have to do now is find somewhere to put it
(workshop clear-up has been on the cards for weeks anyway).

Got a call from Halfrauds this morning...slight cock-up with their stocks so none in the shop today 
Have been promised they are getting more in during the week and ours will be held for us at the same price

Never mind, although we can't get bargains we DO live in a nice place.
I wasn't really after one, I got something simmillar from halfords a few years ago but it has a middle chest too.
The best thing you can do with them is line with the non-slip foam/rubber stuff, and keep the runners well oiled

Well I'd love to report that I've got a nice shiney new chest(tool)!!
However.......
Halfords strike again!!
Turns out they gave my chest away to someone else as they had snapped the key off in the storage container!!
"Ok then, can I take the display one?"
"Errmm, yes I suppose so"
Checked the box contents and all seemed well apart from no key!!
15 mins later and they still couldn't find the key, my (limited) patience had run out!!
I'm gonna write a snotty email to Halfords and see what I can get out of em!!

On the plus side the demo box looked ok, was better than I was expecting as well
However.......

Their jacks are (or, at least, were) good kit.
I've had a Halfords 2.5 ton jobbie for the last 20 + years and it beats anything that I've tried to replace it with.

Unfortunately, I have to agree
I think (in relative terms) though, a lot of Halfords gear still stands up well alongside the competition. To give you an example, I recently read a product test of torque wrenches and the clear winner was the Halfords Professional. It seems that it's a re-badged Norbar item (and, I could be wrong, but I believe still UK manufactured).
That's defintely not true for all of their stuff, but I do think their Professional range of tools still seem to have a quality feel about them.
Mind you, with jacks, and the like, they probably all roll off the same far eastern production line that most of the other own-brand stuff does these days. And, conseqeuntly, get manufactured to the same 'exacting' specifications.

We bought a 'professional' socket set just before christmas from Halfrauds - on a job, forgot some stuff, needed it there and then. Lado used the 19mm socket to tighten up a few fixings - after the third one he managed to split the socket apart - it suddenly went, meaning he punched the side of a beam with his hand when it all gave way. Not happy. The socket looked to be made of monkey metal.

i have a set of halfords sockets and half inch ratchet there about 30 years old ive tried wrecking the rachet many times using it on tractor wheel nuts ect with a 3 foot scafflding pole on it .and using a 14 lb hammer and it wont destructthe sockets i use on an impact wrench as well i normaly use all britool stuff but halfords professional is just as good thanks for the link to halfords toolchest porche ive got one on order
