Don't drink anymore really. Did try a nice ale the other day though. Prince of darkness iircI think it's to caramelise the sugar and change the taste. Guess it depends on whether you're drinking for the alcohol or the taste. I tend to look for very dark beers with relatively low alcohol content (which, admittedly are hard to find, but they do exist). I like the taste of dark beers but don't particularly like the feeling of getting drunk or the way I feel the following day if I do.
