Hi Am i likely to have any trouble with the below damage to this reel of wire? Could probably get away with gluing the outer bits back on its towards the center of the reel both sides thats cracked theres crack the whole way through below the sticker.
its only mig wire ,,, it doesn't fly in the air ,, Ie , its not an aircraft , its job is to be mig wire , it still is mig wire ,lace it up and close the door , all its doing is feeding off the reel , dont over think it.
If bought then would be letting the supplier know and then the ball is in their court. If donated then would happily use. Like the last 15kg roll I got given. It was cracked similar and ditched as they couldn't guarantee not damaged.
weight wise it might unblance it a bit was new or used stock ? prob be fine but untill you try you wont know and unpacking will mean no returns if new message the people that sold it see if they say to use it if they do its on there head and if not running right ypu can return if was given or old on the shelf stuff get it on only trying it will you know if it works
Cheers for the quick responses bought it online the other day wasnt sure if this would cause wire feed issues later on down the line.
if the crack opens up and traps the tensioned wire in it then yes it will. if i payed good money and it arrived like that i would not accept it
I did break a bit off a reel it made no difference mate at all as in the picture the wire is running straight so it can not cause an issue as there is plenty of the original plastic to keep it in track
You paid for it , send photo s to supplier requesting a replacement reel, request them to organise collection of this reel, the result will be either full refund and keep the reel or new reel and keep the damaged one, most wont want it back..
If your wire feed pickup is centre of the reel it should feed okay, some are slightly offset and run on the outer edge as the wire feeds off one side.
Its going to get better the more you use or i should say the paranoia will decrease...they turn very slow and that's going no where
slightly different point of view it all depends on your machine and which way round the spool need fitting, the side sticking out like it is could easily snag on things in the machine. I had a spool with moulding flashes on which I didn't notice until I found them after investigating feed problems. Every time the flashes caught in the machine the wire feed hiccuped
I received a 5 kg roll with similar damage recently. I raised it with the supplier and they sent me another to replace it. In the meantime I tried the damaged roll after super gluing the pieces back on and reinforcing with duct tape but because it wasn't aligned correctly the wire caught one the damaged rim as it unwound. So made a 50 mm spacer out of a piece of wood and a short piece of dowel made the correct size to suit the hole in the reel. Still using it successfully now and have a spare 5 kg roll of wire. Interestingly, both rolls were packaged similarly well but the second obviously hadn't been thrown about.
