Looking for info on Fourtraks,has anybody owned or driven one and are there any good or bad points?

My brother had one it was an awesome little thing he bust second gear on his though. he took it off road alot and says it was great

Just sold one and still got one. Great little trucks, strong as an ox and very cheap and easy to service and maintain. Watch out for the usual rust, especially sills and also trim damage, even a wheel arch moulding on a later wide-arch one is over £300! Engines seem to go on forever, they get a bit tappety but nothing much other than that.
Towing weight is 3500Kg too, same as a discovery. Got the factory service manual on cd if you do decide to get one.

Ita a 96/97 SWB Fieldman 6 months tax/mot. Only seen pics as its 100 miles from me but sounds ok. The seller is looking for around £700.

Price sounds good even for a fieldman, they're very basic though but I imagine that's what you're after. I got £540 for our old F reg one! Gissa shout if you want that manual .

Yea I had one as well. It was the independent, wide arch two tone 5 seat version. Brilliant. Knocked spots off the defenders I had. Would pull anything, it was very smooth, went well, more car like than the landys. It would tow the boat and I didn't know it was on the back. Would highly recommend one. But they can rust.

Yea you are right there no worse than a landrover!! Plus you don't get wet feet/arms/legs from water running in the cab!

amazing vehicle!!! i am on the look out for one now.

Things to watch out for.. sills rot due to the water drainage getting easily blocked. boot floor and around the front screen is also a problem.

Post S reg models have less robust turbo units.
Best ones to go for are the tin top SWB versions.

I had one just for off road, back and for the stables etc etc.. brilliant far superior in comparison to the discoveries and pajero's we've had

Now i am looking for one to use as a towing vehicle. My mate is a tree surgeon, he's had his fourtrak for a couple of years now, says its the best 4x4 he's ever had.. he's never got stuck anywhere with it when he's out in the wilds plus it drags trees round very easily.


I'm hoping to get one before the end of winter.
