DAB Radio Streaming Apps

Can anyone recommend a free streaming app that can play dab radio on an android phone?

I've read reviews of several apps and they don't sound good, lots of ads being a common complaint.

I normally listen to absolute radio or one of the rock stations but my 2nd dab radio has just died and the workshop is too quiet.

In which case you will enjoy Solid Gold Gem; no adverts, no idiot DJs and a minimum of waffle. All classic music 60s,70s, 80s and 90s plus themed shows. Tunein try to insert their adverts with smart speakers but that is easily defeated by asking for "Enable Solid Gold Gem" rather than "play...".

Does your android have a dab reciever built in, or do you just mean radio streamed over ip? irrc only some weird nokia and lg models support dab right on the phone...
If its just ip streamed, I would give the app provided by the station a swerve as it is done so they can insert ad's and track you. You just really need to find the .m3u file corresponding to the radio stream you want to listen to, then add it to a generic app.

No great recomendations on a really friendly player, I use vlc because its ad free and I can save playlists between computer/devices and its not stuffed full of ad's.

Try UK Radio, (I installed it on the garage tablet today as I only have DAB and not DAB+) so I could listen to RadioX. So far so good.

Most of the links in the above linked page should play in a standard Samsung Galaxy phone web browser. No further app required.

Why...?

Because you are being served by two transmitters would be my guess, but DAB should not care about that unless you have a "local" setting in DAB mode. Did you store stations in the memories? If so what happens if you press another preset then back again?

Is it a mains powered receiver, and is the mains being turned off?

On the mains but just switched off - on the button on the top?

Ah ok it isn't dab but I want to listen to the stations I could get on my dab radio before it stopped working.

As per voipio's post, for eg the solid gold live station mentioned above is streamed from a shoutcast server at http://149.202.22.75:8130 so you can listen to that without any of the adverts or tracking or special apps directly with a web browser since it loads the shoutcast player if accessed this way. Or vlc will sort it out if you add that url and give you the station name and other metadata for storing in a playlist nicely.

ive tried radio a few times, theres just one problem with all the stations

its either over played or repeated often it was the same when i went to scotland i found a good station only to be let down by the same music being overplayed and even repeated

id also taken up my own music so just loaded that up into the galaxy phone plugged it into some speakers and played them

ive got the ipod and the mp3 players as well of which i just load them up and play them the same way

If you have a windows share of your music with mp3's on it, theres a android app called samba player (windows file sharing was originally called SMB or server messaging block, although its CIFS now) that allows you to play music on them, and in there you can add whichever you like to a playlist on the phone, and at the player you can click the 3 dot menu and there's a option to download the playlist to the local cache on the phone's sd card and after that you can play them from cache when not at home without having data switched on. No faffing about transferring them one by one or using airdroid to send them the phone etc.

Seadog, there are thousands of stations in curated lists if you google for .m3u8 or .m3u files and github. If anything the problem is there's too much to choose from

I had the dab radio connected to a sony hifi to give it volume.
To replace the radio I need one with an aux out plus an external connection for the aerial. Limits my scope to more expensive radios!

I have a few old android phones that l can connect to the hifi with an existing Bluetooth adaptor, just need a suitable app for the phone.
That setup is free and likely to last longer than the dab radio sets.
