DA sander recommendations

Hi all, I need to edge sand our hardwood floor for refinishing, seems like a da sander is what the pro's use for this, prior to belt sanding the main area. Looking at the Sealey DAS150T and the Deltalyo Kestrel DAS-6, any member had experience on either of these, maybe they would be too slow?. Both on offer at around £85, don't want to fork out more for this one off job as I use air tools normally, just too far away from my compressors.

I use a belt sander for refinishing wooden floors, done it a few times on oak. But as me knees are shot know from such activities so i would hire a floor sander.

I intend to hire a sander for the main area when all the edges are done, there is a lot of area to cover. I understand that the edge sanders used are essentially DA. Any comments on my OP will be appreciated.

I use a corner sander for the edges, just blend them in. Not quick tho. If you mask the skirting you can get very close with the belt sander, masking tape with kidnap tape on top

just hire the floor and edge sanders, they are made for the job and will do it in a fraction of the time you spend arsing about with toys

I have the Deltalyo one, a lot better than my Sealey air DA sander. Lent it out a couple of times and its still running well which is a good sign.

Hi.
Don't know either of the sanders you are considering but wouldn't recommend either for your purpose, a few points which may help.
A bit obvious but remove too much material and you have a problem, even the smallest depression, barely noticeable when sanded can become glaringly obvious when finished and in bright light.
The hand sanders used generally for the edging are usually 180mm or 200mm diameter to give a larger 'flat' surface to help in preventing waves, ripples and troughs as you sand, some also have wheels to help hold them level ensure an even pressure is maintained. The 2 units you are looking at have to be held level, not a problem over a short run but there is a lot of distance to cover on your knees even on a small room. My advice would be to hire the right tool.
The belt sander is a great tool but very dangerous for your floor if you are unfamiliar with them. Floor sanders are power driven and all you do is steer it and reverse its direction. Lose concentration or be distracted and let it run into the wall or slow its travel and it will wear a belt width trough in seconds.
As said, I would recommend hire but, probably like everyone else who has timber flooring at home, have used what I have available - a 150mm random orbit but it does sit flat and I only have to move it rather than the tools you are looking at which have to be held level as well.

the proper edging sanders that you can hire spin. (not DA or osolating) the disk is sat at the correct angle etc etc

i know of one guy that sands floors for a living and he uses a 9" grinder with a rubber pad and sanding disc
altho he said you have to be carefull near radiator pipes it slices copper like a hot knife through butter
