the big box of 80 grit da discs i 'borrowed' ages ago has finally ran out where would be my best place to get some decent ones? my DA has the velcro pad and uses the fluffy back discs.the ones i had before were made by bodyline.i remember using some cheapy ones and they clogged up real soon.

Velcro discs are a con, very expensive & mainly aimed at diy users.
Find out where your nearest car paint suppliers are & try them.
A feather edge foam pad that takes stick on discs is far better & the discs are half the price. I use Mirka discs from CARS on Canvey & they are excellent.

DA discs
20 years ago every body was using self adhesive DA discs. Today 90% of discs sold are velcro. The reasons are:
1. Good quality velcro discs last longer
2. Velcro discs can be changed more than once
3. You don't lose self adhsive discs because of dust on the back of the disc
4. They are much better in wet sanding processes
5. Most self adhesive discs are now supplied to be price, not performance competitive.
If you have found velcro to last badly then you have almost certainly been supplied poor quality discs.

What size are they, 125mm or 150mm and do they have the extractor holes in them ? There are usually some on ebay. I have bought privately from ebay seller johnt1102 who is on another forum I read and if you email him he will probably sort you out some in whatever grade and size you want.
I cannot believe 90% of discs sold today are velcro, go in most car body shops & boatyards & stick on are the norm.
As for quality if firms like CARS sold rubbish they would be out of buisness very quickly. Velcro are more likely to be sold in DIY packs at inflated prices.

Velcro is the way things are going the sticky back disc's as you mention are still readily available but i would imagine they will become obsolete in a few years giving way to Velcro.
i myself use the sticky type but they can be a bit of a pain get a little dust on the backing pad and they fly off.
but Velcro are definitely not sold for the diy market most of the car plants are using Velcro.
