I do but I wouldn't even think about trying to grind a spindle bush without the spindle at hand. The to & fro postal charges would exceed the cost of a bought one I'm sure.Pete. Has a Myford.

Very obvious and best solution!!Can you not clock the spindle bore of the machine you wish the bush to fit? You’d have it very close to the required angle then.
You still need a master or at least a female gauge and bluePete. Has a Myford.

Even for setting parallel grinding a master saves a lot of time
Yes you would need a small finger clock. Don’t think they’re a lot of money, especially a cheapy one. As said regarding accuracy and using engineers blue. Clocking gets you close, checking with blue gets you spot on ( as long as it isn’t put on like Bet Lynch’s makeup )Haven’t a clock with a long enough arm to get far enough in I don’t think
The same goes for the point of the DTI if/when you clock the spindle taper in order to set over the topslide. If you are planing on turning it make 100% sure the tool is exactly on centre. Anything above or below centre does weird things to tapers....

Is that the 4.5 you mean?I’ve got a Bush you can borrow
i have one
Worn machines with variable centre heights cause a pitaIf you are planing on turning it make 100% sure the tool is exactly on centre. Anything above or below centre does weird things to tapers....
My tailstock is 12thou low - that wouldn't helpWorn machines with variable centre heights cause a pita
Only sensible solution on worn machinerySimple temporary fix for that is a 12 thou shim between the lower sole part and upper cross sliding part of the tailstock.
Yes on my to do list.Simple temporary fix for that is a 12 thou shim between the lower sole part and upper cross sliding part of the tailstock.
Spindle ServicesI will have to regrind the taper on my mill one day.
I am guessing that will be bundles of fun.
