cylinder tracking

There's quite a few threads on the go at the moment regarding aquiring/selling/refilling of cylinders that should require a rental account. Barcode tracking was mentioned in one of the threads, am just curious how widespread this is as it's happening around my way with some gases...

For a while now BOC oxygen and acetylene cylinders have been logged on their way in and out. Several friends/colleagues have been caught out with the ol' 2 bottle shuffle and variations of it. If the rumours about the huuuuge number of cylinders recovered are true i'd expect it to be expanded to other gases soon.

I've just looked at my AP ones and all three of them have got barcodes plastered all over them. Two different numbers by the looks of things so I guess these are probably trackable.

Boc ones have a green plastic tag with the barcode on, It looks a bit fragile though ,
The tags have been on for a while, but so far I've never seen them scanned.

Never had anything scanned at BOC. Slide them out of the van, and put the full ones back in.

Strange... with argoshield or pureshield it's still like that but my local place have been scanning oxy and acetylene of late

When I went to energas to get my argon bottle, I paid at the main counter and was then directed to the yard at the back. Here I showed my receipt to a guy who then just picked up a bottle seemingly at random from a pile of them and handed it to me. No scanning or noting of serial numbers or anything like that.

I use Energas too, as above. Cylinder taken from a store of 10-20, at an agents yard, rather than Energas yard. no scanning at all.

No scanning at Air products, Energas or BOC near me. Have seen the codes on some of the bottles though.

Got a Boc account and thought the coding was only for testing reasons at the minute in that the tests are more stringent than before- used to be dated tags on a plastic ring where the 'tap' screws into bottle. never seen the scanning when you are on and off the lorry; but if you have an air products bottle with the regulator built in i heard they throw the regulator away annualy cause its safer than getting it tested.
