Cylinder Head Repair

Repaired some broken fins on my cylinder head. Not too bad a result? Two fins broke off in transit with the courier.

It's going to get a full overhaul and powder coat.

I stuck two fins back on. Bead blasted it first to get good metal. Quite hard to weld as I need a long stick out to get in. I think I might get a smaller torch for jobs like this.

I find it easier to bin the broken bit and just build the fin up on edge. Nice job tho

I did that with the third fin which was much smaller. The other two were large bits and it would have taken far too long to build up and then grind back to required finish. Sows ear and silk purse!,

Shot blasting after with heavy shot will restore the "sand cast" look to it as repairs always leave smooth metal behind afterwards, good job.

Done a lot of similar repairs to Lambretta cylinders and heads, once you get it flowing it really is surprising how easy it is to build the fins back up. Good looking repair you have done there Mr S

Looks a nice repair. I've never welded a broken fin back on before I've usually built them up and shaped them afterwards. Well done!

Yep, I use a piece of copper as a backup plate and you can build fins up really fast then.

I bead blasted it this evening and now the finish is the same as the original cast part leaving the repair invisible. Pretty pleased with myself!!
