I told a mate how to grow spuds in them and he's been collecting ever since. Stack them, fill with soil and plant your potato in the top or I think it's better if you plant your potato in a stack of one or two tires and when the foliage is high enough put another tire over the top of it and add soil gradually to draw the plant up and up over the season. When it comes to harvest time just take the tyres off one at a time and sift through the soil - no digging and ferreting around on your knees. You do however need to keep them watered well or the top layers dry out too much. He got a snottogram from the allotment people about having the piles of tyres until he explained and suddenly a few more of the old guys down there have them. As soon as he mentioned that it allowed someone in a wheelchair to harvest the spuds the "authorities" went very quiet (almost as if they were afraid of a shout of "discrimination" incoming) - he doesn't know anyone in a wheelchair but in theory it's sound.

Personally I cut the sidewall with a sharp knife and the bead with a pair of bolt cutters. That just leaves the tread which can be done with a hacksaw (fold it in half and hold in the workmate and keep the blade flat so that it doesn't go between the rubber and get gripped - almost like cutting wood with a tennon saw).

There are various reasons behind fly tipping, for some it's because they are just too lazy to take it to the tip, for others it's because the Council charge people to get rid of their rubbish so rather than pay they fly tip.

See how dangerous that picture is for. giving people ideas. I "found" this part of my garden that came with part of the derelict house next door, after buying the big brushcutter a new carb and biting the bullet, its got a nice S shaped brook through it and is a fair old size with complete privacy but how to get down to it?
Now just what to do with that spare michelin xyz from the 101 & a jcb rear with sidewall damage I have left over. Its too gone off to use on a vehicle or for making seating...
Back in about 75 we were playing in the old army camp on the Sally army farm at Hadleigh, there was a big pile of tyres so we set about rolling them down the steep hill nearby,(this was where the olympic mountain biking track is now)
We heard a tractor coming & let a couple of large tyres go, they bounded down the hill going faster & faster, one burst through the hedge the other hit a mole hill & leapt over the hedge. Unfortunately this was just as Farmer Howard's tractor drove by behind the said hedge. The first tyre shot through the hedge in front of the tractor the second soared over the bonnet between the exhaust stack & cab. We heard the tractor rev up & ran like hell. Farmer howard was about 55 then but bloody fit, he stopped the tractor & chased us halfway to Benfleet before we fortunately lost him.

At least if they're alloys you should get at least a fiver from the scrappy (once the tyres are removed). Admittedly, still a lot of faff for very little reward once you've accounted for disposing of the tyres.
