Cutting slats into sheet steel

Sage advice needed chaps!

How would I go about putting and elongated hole in some sheet steel, with basic tools - drill, grinder, that sort of thing - dont have anything fancy like a pillar drill unfortunatley.

So examples of what I am hoping to do ...

Difficult to see a scale with your pic ,,,,,how wide are the slots?....can you drill holes at either end of the slot and use a cutting disc(dremel/angle grinder) to join the hole ,finish with a file or dremel?

Mark out the outline. Chain drill out to just shy of the line, grind/file/whatever.

Drill holes at either end - then you could get a coping saw in there (or a hacksaw if you make the holes large enough + use a saw where you can reposition the blade at an angle to the hacksaw frame).

If using a coping saw you'll have to be slow and careful though, the blades are pretty delicate.

Mark it out, drill each end and join the holes with a jigsaw.
