If you drive in two nails or large screwnails at an angle.....thereby bridging the gap between fascia board and underside of sheet............this will enable you to put a small handful of stiffish mortar in the gap. The nails will provide a key to hold mortar and it`s cheap.

Use a gloved hand to apply mortar.........it`s actually quicker than a trowel.

It needs to be pretty rigid as it would only be fixed at the bottom, hence leaning towards the expanded mesh rather than the woven stuff. I'm prepared to be that like squirrels these little buggers would have a good go at getting past it so it needs to be something they can't easily bend.

Difference is they are a helluva lot smaller than squirrels, the max weight of a large male would be 180gms whereas grey squirrels are up to 650gms. Tbh, I think even squirrels would have a job to bend the st/st mesh as it tends to spring back and is surprisingly stiff and tensile. The stuff I have is made of 0.36mm wire but looks like you can get it with up to 2mm wire.
If you're still not convinced (I'm beginning to feel like a sales rep ) I've discovered you can get expanded mesh in st/st as well which would get round the rust problem, tho' I still don't think it will shape to the profile as easily.

Strictly speaking, the Edible dormouse or Glis glis is not a mouse although it might be described as a 'mouse like species'. Mice (including rats, voles, lemmings, hamsters and several other species, a total of 369 species worldwide) are of the family Muridae whereas the Glis glis is part of a much smaller family - only 11 species - of the family Gliridae.
