Cutting paint work for new paint

What is best to use to cut and prep the old paint work ready for primer and new colour

You don't need to prime the old paintwork, just rub it down by hand or use a rubber block with wet 800 if it's still sound to take the shine off it. Don't use a DA unless you want to go back to bare metal which will then need priming.

What do you mean don't use water on the primer bits ??

primer is porous, i havn't wet flatted primer for years, havn't had any problems either

So just rub it down with some 1000 grit dry or would you use a finer paper

600 if your using straight colour or 800 if metalic.

if ya paintwork is ifne use a DA with either 320 or 240 grade discs, and no it wont take it down to bare metal unless you want it to mate, but will give you a nice key for your primer or colour coat,
and Langy is correct about primer being porous, it holds water in

320 or 240 grade discs seems a bit aggressive I was thinking of doing it buy hand but air tools seem so much quicker
