Cutting out patches in cars

I've always hated welding cars (im not sure anyone enjoys it??)
But not the actual welding, that part I find easy.

It's the cutting out the rusty metal on the car, with not much access for a normal grinder, do not like taking the gaurd off, especially after my little finger misshap

What other tools do people use? I don't mind taking my time getting a perfect patch cut out.

5 inch grinder, 4 inch grinder, 2 inch grinder, 3inch cut off saw, air hack saw, air and electric die grinders, plasma cutter, finger belt sander, sharp wood chisels, spot weld drills, hole saws, air chisel..........................

Stick a grinder through most of it, any over cut gets a blob of weld in it when fitting the patch..

Let it rust some more and then use a screw driver

Whatever you use,before you cut the said area,clean right back to nice metal 1st,then markout what you want to cut,if you cut 1st then grind/clean you run the risk of thinner the edge to fag paper thin,prepare for blowing through.
You butt or lap welding in the patch?
Me slitting disc on a 115mm grinder all the time,tight spots i use either a die grinder or those little hacksaw blade holders ie

Up until about a year ago all I used was a 4.5" angle grinder and slitting/grinding disc and tin snips...now it's slitting disc and plasma cutter.

It sounds obvious, but before starting surgery have a quick which to see that there's nothing hiding behind the panel you're about to butcher.

I would recommend a 12v cordless 90-degree angle grinder, as described here:

Oscillating saw with metal cutting blade...very precise and can get in most corners.

Gets through the blades....but better than taking your fingers off with a grinder with no guard!
