Cutting Granite

Ive got some sections of a broken granite work top that has two parallell edges and the ends broken. It can yield two pieces each 20" square. One piece will be perfect for a little table in the kitchen. I can't round the edges but plan on wrapping it it oak as a little feature.

Now the difficult bit, of how to cut the broken edges. I have a large tile cutter similar to the one in the picture below, it's water cooled and has an almost new diamond blade. Work top is about 25 mm thick. Will this be man enough if I go slowly and apply plent and plenty of water?

yeh that will cut it no problem with water even better, I have cut it with a hand held angle grinder before now but u will get a much straighter edge with that

u could just polish the edges and have a nice shiny finshed square edge rather than wrapping with wood if u prefer

Ok cool, I have an angle 9" angle grinder with diamond blade but cutter is good as the square edge will be much better.

How can I radius and polish the edges?

i used some pads that attach to a backing plate on my 5" grinder diamond polishing pads they were called

ive used a 230mm grinder to cut granite worktops with a mate holding a spray bottle of water and spraying it on the blade/cut line

Ok, I've just seen these too and as a bonus ive got a variable speed polisher with M14 thread, but have no experience of these pads. How long do they last and any hints or tips ?

use the pads with water the more you pay the more pad you get really. start rough and work down to the fine and keep them wet

In the USA nibbled edge is very popular having a polished top but rough sides
Easy to do with a scutching chisel as well

I've seen that this afternoon while travelling the Internet and may well do that with the second piece of granite that I've got, but for the kitchen smoothed of and rounded is what I need if I can do it as it will be a free standing pastry table.

Now just for the legs, I want stainless steel but I can't weld that and too tight to pay some one

No we are also known to be far less wealthy than the south so just granite dust and water
