Cutting discs less then 1mm

I need to cut out a section of bodywork and then weld the same part back in place, making the cut as thin as possible would help.

Can you get normal size angle grinder discs that are thinner than 1mm?

I would prefer not to use a dremel type tool as the discs last no time at all.

They are even faster than 1mm disks, but very fragile.

Those screwfix ones are £1.70 each, thats very very expensive.

Flexovit do some fantastic discs, cut like a hot knife through butter, they used to do 0.7's in depressed centres though, wonder if they've stopped.

That advert for the discs was showing a box of 25 @£19.95, 50 was £49.95 and 100 £44.95 with 200 at £84.95! Why hammer the 50 pack!!

Just a few points assuming you have not already charged ahead using them.
Make sure your grinders disc hub is nice and clean to get a good seating of the disc.
Make sure that your disc clamping nut is griping the THIN disc as it may bottom out before it clamps fully!
With grinder unplugged, and grinder resting on firm surface. Turn the disc while looking across it (edge on) and look for run out.
Once you start the cut don't hesitate as the disc will start to cut MORE on the sides and make you thin slit wider (something I think you are not after!).
Be aware the slit may close up behind the disc/cut and grab the disc (as I assume you are cutting out a piece that does not run to an edge).

PS keep your hands out of the line of fire (Don't ask......) suffice to say it's handy now having a minor injures unit only 1/2 a mile away

Could you use a simple treplanner ground to a really fine 1/4 mm wide chisel diamond point , turn it in a slow battery drill or better still use a brace & socket to drive it nice & slowly & accurately .

To cut most of the way through you could Araldite / Evostik , mastic etc a boss of wood or metal in the centre of your disc , change the centre drill for a round nose rod , so you don't need to make a drill hole for the pilot drill .
Once you start to get super thin metal & the break starts to happen use a Stanley knife with a new blade to finish the separation & cut it out ... Make sure you make several sharpie fine pen re alignment marks across the cut before it is fully free .
When it's free of the panel soak the disc in a solvent remover etc to remove the adhesive etc .
