cutting disc longevity

I'm using Norton Expert slitting discs in my 9" angle grinder, 230mm x 1.9mm, £2.07 from Toolstation.

Really fast and last well, you just have to overcome the offputting flex when you engage a fresh disc with the steel!

Really scares you the first time you use one - I thought the disc would explode!

First time I used one it was someone else's grinder and I stopped to tighten the nut. It still wobbled but I soon figured it out, and after a few cuts was asking where to buy them.

didnt know they made 9" discs that thin...i have always used 3mm in my 9"

Try them, and you'll be amazed and won't want to go back to normal 3mm disks as they feel like you're trying to cut with a grinding disk once you're used to the thin ones!

Be aware though that if you let them jam (i.e when metal closes up as you cut it) they will often chip or rip the center out. Fine in normal use.

will get hold of some next time im out buying discs...i only use the 9" for big bits of box section or pipe that is too big for the 4.5" to do in one cut

Our local supplier sells SAIT 1mm discs 115mm dia & they are very good indeed. A few months ago a friend gave me half a box of 3M discs the same size & much to my surprise they are rubbish, you might as well put a cream cracker on there, it might last longer!
