Cutting disc consumption-poor discs?

The trouble is the cheaper brands change quality from one batch to the next. I got a load from Aldi that were excellent, and worked out at 14p each, but the next lot were pants. I did buy the entire stock of them though, lasted me a couple of years !

Best to get good brands and buy a 100 and split the order with a mate.

I will post a photo of car as is & how it should be (hopefully) once restored. The car is a 34 Wolesley Hornet special very similar in looks to an MG TC but with a 6 cylinder OHC engine, twin carburettors, wire wheels etc.

I find with the cheap discs its no so much that they wear out quick but its the bloody dust to produce !!!

I find I'm using so little pressure that I'm holding the weight of the grinder off the work so the contact is really gentle and sweeping backwards and forwards along the line rather than trying to cut right through. That way my discs last well and I could probably have done that job with a single disc, surprisingly quickly too. As soon as you lose patience and put any pressure on it, the disc just disappears in a puff of dust!

Allegedly, the police used them in the 1930's to chase "speeders". Top speed was quoted as 82 mph, must have been quite scary with the doors & wooden bodywork flapping about.

I would take you up up on your kind offer Jonakay but fear you wouldn't understand the delay. It's taken me over 20+ years to get a rolling chassis. It's going to be a at least this year & next before I fettle the body.

quality of the discs matter, yes its excessive to have used 4 up! Pressure applied also matters and I suspect how warm and dry the discs have been kept. I now have a stash in the house and they seem to last longer than those left in the shop and certainly those left in the truck

I've recently used some Norton Saint Gobain discs for cutting 8mm plate and they are excellent. Purchased them at Rufforth autojumble - £10 for 25. Went back the following month and bought some Norton grinding discs but not tried them yet.
