I need to get a few different sizes of 10mm steel plate cut and drilled. Ive asked parker steel for a quote and to get them to do the drilling costs around £30 and the cutting a further £50 for the cutting of the 2x1m 10mm sheet. I cant do the drilling myself, but how easy is it to cut about 5m of lines in total with an angle grinder and 1mm cutting discs? Is it worth saving the £50 and cut it myself? Cheers!

I agree with the above.
You may also like to try these guys for quotes as parker are often the biggest A holes out there with pricing structures.

Not sure 50 quid for 5m is a rip-off. The quality of cut should be good and if I were to do that, by the time I'd hauled the plate about, set up, marked out (accurately), cut and de-drossed, it would have taken the better part of an hour. No guarantee the cuts would be at 90 degree to the face of the plate either.
Doing it yourself with slitting discs - horrible job, take an age and you'd probably use 3 or 4 discs a metre.

Each cut done quicker than typing these two lines.
Depending on how its cut mind, if its not all full size cuts, they will be charging you up for plasma probably.

Yeah, careful with parkers and their guillotine. I recently had some galv sheet cut into rectangles - what could be easier, right? Well, as it turns out, just about anything. Almost all the sheets where cut with one side skew, out by about 10mm over a metre length. Absolutely shocking. I must call them and complain when I get round to it...

Wish I could. I had to use it due to lack of time to re order, but it meant trimming all the panels myself, which kind of made it pointless getting it guillotined, plus staying up at god knows what time of night to get it all sorted.
Useless. I bet their guillotine has a nice cnc backstop, nothing to do but stick the sheet in and press the pedal without having your head stuck up your posterior.

I did 2 x 1.5mt strips on a 10mm plate about 2 years ago, I needed to trim up the long edges of a welding table. I used 180mm disks, I think they were about 2.3mm thick and use a Makita 7.25" wood power saw to drive them, took about 5 disks and about 2.5hrs to do.
The edge was nice, straight and sharp but there was dust everywhere and the only thing I needed to do afterwards was take the sharp edge with a sanding disc to remove the knife edge.
It would be easier to get it guillotined or laser cut as a sheet, but as it was already built that wasn't an option, where I live it would have taken twice as long to get it on a trailer and take it to somewhere where they would have done it for me, however they would have still used Oxy or plasma and I still would not get the same clean straight edge. I do have a plasma cutter but wanted a better cut edge, so chose the long way to do it.

2.5hrs is a mightly long while to do 3 meters cut. a 115mm grinder and decent inox discs would have been easier or better still a 9 inch grinder but thery get rather heavy after a while.
Well ok £20. We have a cnc machine and this would take 10 minutes. I like helping folk out if I can.. to soft I guess but lifes to short
That may be, but I wanted the sides straight, the 2.5hrs included getting it all set up, moving the table around to where I could cut it, ect, plus the fact that my power saw is about 30-35 years old, dodgy and occasionally smokes a little bit so I didn't want to burn it up just yet by putting too much pressure on it, after all it is a wood saw, so lots of very light cuts.
