Cut and shut or stretch limo?

Was browsing the lathe thread and viewed a sellers others item and saw this?

I suppose some youngster got a bit too long in the leg but couldn't bear to part with his beloved car.

Here's something along those lines I made for my boy, petrol engined:

The speedo is stuck gracefully on 70mph, and the tacho is in engine exploded territory. They really are the worlds most pants of clocks arent they
Look nice tho, rest of the totrod is much better built it looks like

Chap at a rally, "I've changed me exhaust and it does 190 now" (RX thou). O yes, he had one o' they craptastic speedos too. Insisted on the 190. "Outside now, race you for V5s". He didn't go for it

Best not let my young boy see that or he might get ideas of wanting one himself. (He's more mad on Tractors at the moment).
Is that steering wheel your own creation?
What about the body? Looks like a fibreglass moulding.

Cheers Stormin. Tractors, I can't help but like old tractors ... My lad was the same when he was a bit younger (now 9), loved 'em.
The body you get as a fairly rough thing, with separate nose 'grille'. Needs sorting out and re-glassing here 'n there, or if you cut the 'bootlid' it warps etc. The rest you scratch build to suit, some go electric, ours had a Honda genny or kart motor.
The wheel, the boy says he wants "one like a racing car with buttons". So I chopped up a kart wheel, added the spheres & switches, belt buckle centre.

The filler came from an autojumble plus a Homebase light fitting, my other half made the seats in tuck 'n roll white & metalflake, mini 8-ball boot 'handle' and someone gave the lad a small personalised 'number plate' as a pressie, can't see it though:

There's some real clever totrods about though, one chap made a replica chromed Jag IRS, fully working...! Stunning stuff.

he's sold it now to someone in america

I remember seeng it in a mag, I saw it at some rod & custom do at Ally Pally before that. Beautiful thing that was (is).
