I've dismantled many motors, single and three phase. Single phase aren't difficult to dismantle and then put back together.Would it be easier to to get a standard motor and get the end of the shaft turned down?
3 phase motors come apart pretty easy, there’s not that much to them - windings are on the outside so the rotor is just one lump. I’ve never dismantled a single phase motor so can’t help there but I imagine they are similar inside…
Why do you need 20mm?Hi,
can anyone recommend where I can get a motor made with a non-standard shaft pls.?
2.2kw motors are 24mm diameter shafts and I need a 20mm shaft.

I didn’t think so but I’ve never taken one apart so I couldn’t say with confidence, plenty of 3 phase though.I've dismantled many motors, single and three phase. Single phase aren't difficult to dismantle and then put back together.
When I did my wm240, I noted, the pulley and belt were not an easily obtainable standard, and the original motor was tiny. When I had my Chester 9 x 20 lathe, I fitted a vfd/motor to it…
I needed a 71 size frame motor of the requisite hp…Only one I could get had a standard size shaft, (whatever size it was….) and it wouldn’t fit the pulley…so I stripped out the rotor, machined the drive end of the shaft, recut the key slot….
and Roberts your uncles fanny aunt or whatever….otherwise, jobs a good ‘un..and it went back together fine….
